Las Vegas Dancers Love the T-A-NGO!
Las Vegas Dancers Love the T-A-NGO!
If you want drama, then the tango is the dance for you. This fiery Latin number has more drama and heat presents in its story than a Hollywood action adventure film all rolled into one.
With the long flowing steps, and the flip and switch of the head, and then the eyes connect, the music races and then…the lunge.
This is the type of dance that you watch with pent up emotion and when the couple finally hits a dramatic beat, you go…ahhhh, right along with the dancers. This style works on the rolling motion of the heel toe when walking forward and the toe heel when walking backwards. The side steps are low in the knees, and the foot steps should come first as the body follows.
The basic step includes two walks forward, a third step, and then a side step and close. On the close the foot never quite touches down though which enables the dancer to be ready to move and flow throughout the dance. The counts are slow, slow, quick, quick, slow. Another popular move is the promenade. This step moves forward on the first step, and then the woman initiates a snap or pivot, and then the pattern continues to move. Last and not least is the lunge. This lunge creates and varies the shapes of the dancers and provides the variation that makes the dance unique.
The posture for this dance is lifted in the ribcage, lowered in the knees, with the head dramatically turned off to the left so that it can snap and rotate as necessary. When walking, the dancer imitates a surge-like motion on the last few steps so that there is a stark contrast to the earlier foot work.
A popular way to teach this dance both in Las Vegas and around the US to spell out the word T-A-NGO and dance that progression as you speak it.
